Virtual Dice Roller

A set of dice that never rolls under the sofa. Roll any common die, mix several kinds in one go and keep a running total of the results. It suits board games, role-playing games, probability lessons and quick decisions alike.

      Roll any combination of dice

Tap a die to add it to the roll, tap it again for another, then press Roll. You can also type the whole roll: 3d6 rolls three six-sided dice, 2d10+4 adds four to two ten-sided dice, and 1d4+1d6 mixes shapes. Up to 100 dice per group and dice of up to 1,000 sides are allowed, so a d3 or a d30 works too.

      Using dice in the classroom

A virtual dice roller is handy for probability lessons. Roll 2d6 a few dozen times, then compare the history with the expected chances below. The history keeps your last 50 rolls with their count and running total, which makes it easy to work out an average.

      DiceRangeAverage
      d41–42.5
      d61–63.5
      d81–84.5
      d101–105.5
      d121–126.5
      d201–2010.5
      d1001–10050.5
      2d62–127
      3d63–1810.5

How the virtual dice stay fair

Real dice can be slightly unbalanced. These are not: each roll uses crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographic random number generator, and the code rejects the few raw values that would favour some faces over others. The 2D animation is decided after the result, so it cannot change it. Rolls are made on your device and are not sent anywhere.

      Frequently asked questions

What is a virtual dice roller?

It is a web page that rolls dice for you. You choose the dice, press Roll and get the faces and the total, just like throwing real dice, but nothing gets lost and the maths is done for you.

Can I roll dice with any number of sides?

Yes. Type the number of sides after the d, such as 1d3, 1d30 or 2d50. Dice from 2 to 1,000 sides are supported.

How do I roll several different dice at once?

Join them with a plus sign, such as 1d8+2d6+3. Each group is rolled and the subtotals are shown along with the overall total.

Does the roller keep a record of my rolls?

Yes. The history lists your recent rolls with their totals and a running sum. It is kept in this browser only, and the Clear button deletes it.

Can I turn off the sound and animation?

The sound is off until you switch it on. The tumbling animation is skipped automatically if your device is set to reduce motion.
